The Shangri-La resort is pleased to announce that he United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCSO) has granted the Maldives atoll that surrounds the Shangri-La resort World Heritage status. A reflection of the marine protection act that has left the environment unmolested to the past two decades, the World Heritage status ensures that the reef will remain a beautiful site for our exclusive visitors in the years to come.

Being a UNESCO site means that guests will be subject to certain restrictions. All dives on the reef must be accompanied by our certified DiveMaster to ensure that weights are correct and that the reef remains undamaged. All waste from the restort is treated to be completely biodegradable, with water distilled and refined so purely that you could drink it. But we believe that these costs are with it to maintain a reef that has become world-famous for the richness and diversity of its colorful sea life.
